International Students & Scholars in the US
ISP offers four international health insurance plans for eligible international students and scholars studying in the United States:

ISP Plans offer comprehensive health coverage, as well as access to the Beech Street or PHCS network of doctors and hospitals - two of the largest provider networks in the US.
All of our international student plans also include access to assistance services, and coverage for emergency evacuation and repatriation of remains.

ISP Tourer
Tourer is the most basic ISP plan for international students, starting at $32 per month for students under age 29. Tourer meets or exceeds US State Department insurance requirements for J1/J2 and F1 visa holders and in many cases will also meet or exceed individual university requirements. (Check with your university to be sure.)
Please note that Tourer is not available to students studying in the following US states: Washington, Idaho, Massachusetts, and Minnesota.

Pioneer is one of ISP's intermediate plans for international students, starting at $30 per month for students age 25 and under. Pioneer meets or exceeds US State Department insurance requirements for J1/J2 and F1 visa holders and in many cases will also meet or exceed individual university requirements. (Check with your university to be sure.)
There are two Pioneer Plans available: Basic Pioneer and Enriched Pioneer. Please note that Pioneer is not available to students studying in the following US states: Georgia, Idaho, New Hampshire, Vermont and Washington.

ISP Mountaineer
Mountaineer is ISP’s high-end health plan for international students, starting at $60 per month for students age 25 and under. Mountaineer meets or exceeds US State Department insurance requirements for J1/J2 and F1 visa holders, as well as most universities’ requirements. Mountaineer also may be used to opt out of a mandatory school insurance program, where permitted by the university.
Please note that Mountaineer is not available to students studying in the following US states: Washington, Idaho, Massachusetts, and Minnesota.

provider network. If there are no Beech Street providers within 25 miles of where you are located, benefits will be paid
at the In-Network level.
**Copays are waived if the participant is treated onsite at the Student Health Center and is not referred off campus:
- In the case of a participant not being able to be treated at the Student Health Center and subsequently being referred to an off-campus private doctor by a licensed general health practitioner at the Student Health Center, the copay will be half of the scheduled copay amount.
- In the case of treatment not being possible at the Student Health Center and the participant being referred to the ER by a licensed general health practitioner at the Student Health Center, the copay will be half of the scheduled copay amount.
- In the case of treatment not being available at the Student Health Center, or if there is not one, and the participant is referred to or forced to go the ER and then subsequently hospitalized, then the ER, doctor’s visit and hospitalization copays will be integrated to a maximum of $250.

If you are using Mountaineer to opt out of your university’s mandatory school insurance program, obtain a waiver form.
Eligibility
To be eligible for any of these plans, you must have a current passport or visa and be residing outside your home country or country of permanent residence while actively engaged in education or research activities in the United States. You are considered “actively engaged” in educational or research activity if you are any of the following:
Your spouse and any dependent children under the age of 19 are also eligible for coverage if they accompany you to the United States. For purposes of this insurance, if your home country (the country from which you hold a passport) is different from your country of permanent residence (the country in which you permanently reside), you will not be covered in either location. |
